Recently, Catherine Young Interior Design completed one of the Broadway Brownstones with Stephen Sparn Architects. The Broadway Brownstones is a beautiful 7 unit, three story stone clad, New York style building located in Boulder, Colorado.
My clients are bachelors. At their request, I used darker woods for cabinets and furniture contrasted with lighter Maple flooring and carpeting. We clad the two sided fireplace in dark chocolate leather tiles from Ann Sacks (Piel Leather) and used an Ann Sachs (Erin Adams) glass mosaic tile for the the kitchen backsplash, making for a warm, comfortable yet contemporary home.
My clients came to me with two lovely antique area rugs, a phenomenal portfolio of color photography of southern Utah, and several large, whimsical antique French art posters, all expertly framed by Mary Williams Fine Art. These elements dictated the color pallet of the project; including terracotta, pale yellow and yellow ocher, blues, and browns. The area rugs were used in the dining and living rooms, which are separated by the two sided leather clad fireplace yet they live comfortably together. A custom cherry dining table with walnut butterflies and matching bench style seating make the dining room inviting and puts guests at ease.

In the master bedroom we chose pale yellow for the wall color and carpet contrasted with chocolate brown woods for the low platform bed and nightstands, Ted Boerner bench and built in closet. A tri color wall to wall drapery panel made of woven linen, accented with a chocolate brown horizontal silk band adds warmth and elegance to an otherwise minimalist bedroom. The interlined drape is ideal for blocking out the afternoon sun and has great sound dampening properties. This same color scheme was carried into the master bath using truffle stained cabinets juxtaposed with Venetian Gold granite for countertops and tub deck. A sand colored, crackle finish subway tile was used for the shower walls and a splash of iridescent glass mosaic tile accents the tub face.
The Denver Design District is always a great source for the latest in interior finishes, furniture and fixtures.
